Winter Sports Recap

Men's Basketball The men's basketball team enjoyed early success this winter but ultimately was unable to have the season the players and coaches had hoped for. The squad rode an early five-game winning streak to open the year at 6-2, with one of the two losses coming in an 89-87 battle with eventual Elite Eight team Brandeis. After entering conference play at 9-4, the Jumbos posted a 1-8 record in the NESCAC and missed out on postseason play. Four of the team's eight in-conference losses came by five points or less.

Four Years in Review | 2006-2007

The 2006-2007 academic year was a time of growth for Tufts. The year began with the September opening of Sophia Gordon Hall, a 62,000-square foot residence hall built to house 126 seniors and designed as a model for eco-friendly dorms. The building was funded by a $10-million grant from trustee Bernard Gordon.

Women's Crew Season Recap | Season ends with mixed results at ECACs

The members of the women's crew team went into the spring season after a rigorous winter training program in the best shape of their lives. But the level of competition among the New England-area crew teams was raised a notch this season, and any team had the chance to win on any given weekend.

Xander Zebrose | Get Off My Lawn

Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) want the federal gas tax of 18.4 cents per gallon suspended this summer. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) does not. This was the biggest issue in the May 6 Indiana and North Carolina Democratic primaries, and, as far as actual policy goes, it is a rare disagreement.

Devin Toohey | Hostels and Hostiles

In a way, I suppose studying abroad is sort of like college, just all compressed into one magical year. You're in a different place with more independence than you've ever known, with strange people who aren't all from your home (except home now means the United States instead of just a suburb in New Jersey).

Baseball | Trinity, Amherst losses spell end to Tufts' season

An up-and-down season for the baseball team stayed true to form during the NESCAC Tournament. After defeating West champion Williams in the first round, the Jumbos could do no more damage, dropping their final two games of the double-elimination tournament to end their season

Dear seniors: I've watched one too many episodes of "What Not to Wear." There seems to be a trend of people who fall into a fashion rut after graduating from college.

Memo to Iraq

This month, we celebrated the five-year anniversary of George W. Bush's triumphant landing on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln off of California, when, a mere six weeks into the War in Iraq, he declared, in front of a staged rally of sailors, that "[i]n the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed."

"There are so many emotions at the end of a season. And nobody likes to talk about it, but one of them is fear. Fear that you've come this far, and it could all end. The dream could die. But me? I like the fear. It means I'm close. It means... I'm ready."

Four Years in Review | 2004-2005

When members of the Class of 2008 first set foot on the Hill in 2004, they learned very quickly that Tufts students are, to say the least, a politically active bunch. Matriculating in the heart of the 2004 presidential election season, the then-freshmen watched and participated as the campus kicked into full campaign frenzy, with student groups on both sides of the aisle holding political events, discussions and rallies (including the Tufts Democrats' "Kegs for Kerry" event, which drew hundreds of partiers and raised money for the campaign of Democratic Sen. John Kerry).

Four Years in Review | 2005-2006

Sophomore year began in a whirlwind for some members of the Class of 2008, as students returned to Tufts in the wake of the deadly and destructive Hurricane Katrina. Tufts responded in kind; the university welcomed over 40 displaced students from Tulane University, and a host of groups and departments at Tufts pitched in to help with the rebuilding effort.

Men's Track and Field | After NESCACs, Jumbos shift focus to NCAAs

Ever since the men's track and field team narrowly missed out on a league title at the NESCAC Championships on April 26, the focus has shifted away from team events and toward the individuals. Since the conference meet, the Jumbos have participated in the New England Div. III Championships and the Open New England Championships.
