The Best of Tufts Athletics

With another year of Tufts athletics in the books, the Daily would like to recognize the stars and teams who were a cut above the rest in 2006-07. With one NESCAC champion, one gold-medal winner, and even a sophomore rookie, today's award winners exemplified the best the Jumbos have to offer. Some choices weren't easy, but all were more than deserving of today's honors.

Though New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was listed as number 44 on the 400 richest Americans by Forbes Magazine in 2006, he does his current job - leading one of the largest cities in the world - for just $1 a year. A hard-working politician and Medford native, Bloomberg will be delivering the keynote address at this year's Commencement.

Profile | Capt. Frederick Hauck, honorary degree recipient

It would be no surprise if Captain Frederick Hauck's (A '62) advice to graduating seniors on commencement day were, "reach for the stars." A former Navy ROTC student, Hauck has spent much of his life doing just that as an astronaut for NASA.

Top 10 | Moments in Tufts Sports, 2006-2007

This year was not as friendly to Tufts athletics as 2005-06, as the Jumbos were forced to live without Director's Cup races, soccer Final Fours and 23-win basketball seasons. But make no mistake about it: there was no shortage of memorable moments this time around. From walk-offs to buzzer-beaters, milestone wins to title games, the Tufts faithful have had plenty to cheer about over the last nine months.

Thomas Schelling is one of the world's most respected economists. Over his years of study he has dealt with a variety of policy issues, and he is "considered one of the fathers of modern game theory," University President Lawrence Bacow said in an e-mail to the Daily.
