Res Quad to re-open by Commencement

A construction project on the Cabot Intercultural Center that began in 2005 has been virtually completed and the Residential Quad, which was used during the project as a dumping ground by the construction company, is expected to be back to normal by Commencement, according to Director of University Facilities Robert Bertram.

Some students to move off of waitlist next week

Many of the 125 rising sophomores currently on the waitlist for housing will start getting rooms next week. But while they have been waiting for housing assignments, some students found out earlier this week that the rooms that they had already secured for next year are no longer available.

Concert Preview | Spring Fling's high-profile acts won't prove to be fiascos

If you haven't been living under a rock, you're probably pretty excited about tomorrow's Spring Fling. According to a recent (albeit non-scientific) poll on the Daily's Web site, however, only 42 percent of respondents are "excited about the (lineup)" while the remaining 58 percent are either unhappy with or unfamiliar with T.I., Lupe Fiasco and Spoon.

In the past few weeks, students everywhere have learned that college isn't always the safe and sound bubble it's cracked up to be. The April 16 massacre at Virginia Tech, in which 32 unarmed students were shot and killed, brought increased awareness of safety issues on campuses nationwide.

Standalone | Johnson brings students behind bars

Dr. Paula Johnson talks to an audience in Cabot 205 Wednesday evening about race and prisons. Behind her is a projected picture of sidewalk graffiti from Washington, D.C. that says "NO PRISONS." Her speech, entitled "A Black Feminist Vision for a New Abolitionist Movement: An Agenda for Freedom, Justice, and Human Rights for Black Women's Lives," was part of the Black Cultural Studies Seminar 2006-2007 Lecture Series: Prisons. Johnson, the author of the book "Inner Lives: Voices of African American Women in Prison" (2003), is a professor at the Syracuse University College of Law.
