Theater Review | This moving theatrical production leaves little to be 'Desired'

Sand falls from the ceiling. A woman performs trapeze acts high above the stage, entwining herself in white fabric. Live rock music blasts through the speakers. A character's inner thoughts are voiced poetically through the sound system. Dutch and German song and speech coexist with English to express thought and emotion.

Alex Bloom | Philly Phodder

This will be the last Philly Phodder of the year (gasp!), as I will be abroad in Spain next semester. I hope to bring the elevated, refined culture that is Philadelphia to another country. I'm not sure who will be more shocked: me, because of their idea of futbol, or them, when I start cursing Billy King's name for trading Allen Iverson.

Beyond the numbers: a rundown on diving scoring

The diving team has been bolstered this year by the addition of junior Kendall Swett, a transfer student from Lake Forest College and last year's Div. III national champion in the 3-meter dive. Swett has already qualified for Nationals in the 1- and 3-meter dives as well as broken Tufts' records in both events; her 272.48 point record in the 1-meter dive and 297.25 in the 3-meter dive currently rank her among the best scores in Div. III.

Tianyao Kelly | The Tao of Sex

A group of us were sitting in Dewick one day at lunch, and we started talking about sex (as usual). And as more often than I'd like to admit, we ventured onto the topic of fetishes ...

Leave the boat alone!

Who are you, boat destroyer? For the past couple of weeks, the boat outside of ATO has been moved, torn apart and pretty much has had every possible destructive behavior imposed upon it, short of lighting it on fire in the middle of our front yard. Why is it suddenly a good idea to destroy our property when we are the ones having you over to our house to have fun?

Returning home can make students feel a little like Alice in winter wonderland

Imagine sitting in a 12-by-15-foot bedroom with a dozen fellow college freshmen, half-empty beer cans poured into plastic red cups arranged in geometric patterns on a long table - sound familiar? There is a knock at the door. Upon opening it, you discover that it is not your overly strict RA, your creepy hallmate or an unwelcome party guest, but an even more daunting force: your mother. You are not at Tufts, and you don't need a fob to get into your house: It's winter break.

Top 10 | The ten biggest snubs in sports

We knew it would happen, but we still couldn't believe that Michigan was snubbed by the BCS even though USC lost on Saturday to UCLA, opening up the door to give the Wolverines a spot in the National Championship game. Instead, Florida, who won the SEC Championship on Saturday, will meet Ohio State in the National Championship game. So we at the Daily decided to look into other snubs in sports history.

TV Review | New season of 'Scrubs' kicks off with a bang and a baby boom

Thursday saw the debut of NBC's new powerhouse comedy lineup: one that most people are too nervous to admit is better than the old one. "My Name is Earl," "The Office," "30 Rock" and "Scrubs" are consistently funny and do not tell the audience when to laugh. It's almost like NBC is finally realizing that it is possible to make good, funny television without treating viewers like three-year-olds. Talk all you want about "Friends;" at least these shows have not sacrificed the individual traits of their characters in order to take better aim at their punch lines from a can.

Sam Dupont | Red Sky at night

When I decided to write this column, before I came to China, I had thought a good topic for an installment or two might be college social life here and how it compares to a weekend at Tufts. As the semester rolled along, however, I came across very little worth writing about. The end is here, and the situation is the same, but I think the lack of source material makes for an interesting story in itself.
