Walt Laws-MacDonald | Show Me the Money

If I could sum up the financial and economic news of this summer in one word, it would be "tentative." "S&P makes tentative gains." "ECB officials speak tentatively of recovery." "Traders tentative of Fed taper."

Ryan Buell | This Week in Hip-Hop

As the school year picks up again, it's easy to lose touch with the music world. Keeping up with the newest albums and latest hits quickly loses priority against that eight-page research paper you were assigned in the first week, attending GIMs for every club imaginable, the two chapters of reading from a book that you haven't even purchased and the unending procrastinate-cram-party cycle. With all that's going on in the average college student's life, how is there possibly time even to know about - let alone listen to - the newest album releases? But do not fear: I, Ryan Buell, am here to bring you the latest in hip-hop news and music, along with occasional theories, opinions and reactions to the happenings in hip-hop culture. To start off, I'll be going through some of the most anticipated (at least my personally most anticipated) album releases for the rest of 2013.

Lex Erath | Sugar and Spice

People generally feel one of two ways about generalizations: either they're completely right or completely wrong (see what I did there?). For that reason, I'd like to add in here a disclaimer for all local Massachusetts kids - you can try to deny what I'm about to say, but you know there's more than a grain of truth in the particular stereotype I'm about to divulge. Besides, I still hate the Yankees, so I clearly know something.

Women's Cross Country | Jumbo runners optimistic for fall season

The women's cross country team, led by head coach Kristen Morwick, starts its season on Sept. 21 at the University of Southern Maine Invitational. After an inconsistent 2012 season, defined by a tied-for-fourth-place finish at the NESCAC Championship and ending without an NCAA Championship bid, the team is hopeful about potential improvement this season.

Men's Cross Country | Jumbos poised for another top finish this fall

For the past two years, the men's cross country team has begun the season with high expectations - and it has surpassed them both times with top-10 finishes at the Div. III NCAA Championship in November. Entering this fall ranked No. 11 in the nation, the Jumbos look to continue that trend.

Football | Notebook: Freshmen impress in intersquad scrimmage

The final score at Ellis Oval on Saturday was 125-109, but no, it was not the greatest shootout in football history, and no, it was not Anthony Fucillo (LA '11) against Amherst circa 2010 (when he threw for a NESCAC record 503 yards in a 70-49 loss). Points were awarded somewhat arbitrarily at the Jumbos' annual intersquad scrimmage in which Tufts' offense, wearing white jerseys, triumphed over the blue-clad defense.

Football | Two years after monster season, Skarzynski returns as coach

Zack Skarzynski (LA '12) stood 20 yards ahead of the line of scrimmage on Bello Field last week, arms folded as he watched the Jumbos' defense compete against the offense in drills. As each running back burst across the line, the 2011 NESCAC tackles leader stood still, merely observing, occasionally pulling a player aside to offer advice.

Volleyball | Volleyball squad looks for fresh start with young roster

The Tufts 2013 volleyball team finds itself almost completely reworked from the position it left off at in 2012. The 17-person roster features seven new players, six of whom are freshmen, and just one senior: tri-captain Virginia Clay. In addition to the loss of a trio of seniors that included All-NESCAC first team selection Kendall Lord (LA '13), Tufts will also be without Kelly Brennan, the team's leader in kills for the past two seasons, as she has transferred to Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. Inexperience is the greatest obstacle facing the Jumbos as they prepare for the fall season.
