Sartorial students dress the part

From Vera Wang to vintage, Gucci to garage sale, Tufts students represent all points on the fashion spectrum. But at the end of the day, does the average Jumbo care enough about their clothing to project a personal "image?"

Boston Ave. cafe serves up slice of Denmark

Walking into Danish Pastry House — DPH, to those in the know — on Boston Avenue, one might think it's just a typical local cafe. It's cozy, yet spacious, with an attractive display of desserts lining one wall and an assortment of hot and cold drinks available for order.

Weekender Feature | Boston is a mecca of unusual, historical theaters

Boston has been a longtime hub for filmmakers and movie buffs alike. Though common sense would deem Hollywood the epicenter of film, Boston is a prevalent backdrop and is also host to numerous festivals and cinema-based events. Just ask Matt Damon and Ben Affleck who — since their coronation as Hollywood hotshots — have been bringing movie sets to Boston since "Good Will Hunting" (1997).

Denial of the right to education for Baha'is in Iran

Imagine yourself in Barnum 008 halfway through a lecture as a group of armed soldiers storms into the lecture hall, arrests your professor, imprisons your classmates and confiscates all your class materials. While this story may seem only imaginary to those of us at Tufts, for college students who are members of the Baha'i faith in Iran, it is a stark reality. The Baha'i faith, a religion whose primary mission is to promote and bring into reality the principles of the oneness of God, the oneness of religion and the oneness of humankind, is Iran's largest religion after Islam. Its members have suffered horrific persecutions at the hands of the Iranian government since the faith was founded in the mid 1840s, and this persecution has intensified in the past three decades.

Justice resorts to cliches on 'Audio, Video, Disco.'

For anyone who has been involved in the electronic music movement of the 2000s, Justice is a name that will be instantly recognizable. DJ duo Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, who comprise Justice, first gained recognition with their remix of Simian's "Never Be Alone." The band then exploded onto dance floors worldwide with the single "D.A.N.C.E." off their debut album "Cross" (2007), and they've been rising in international fame ever since.

Confronting integration with education, empathy

As a white female on campus who grew up in a world of socioeconomic privilege, I felt confused and somewhat offended by the op−ed "What happens when integration and assimilation fail?," published on Nov. 1, 2011. I am a student who has actively advocated for racial equality and assimilation at Tufts, accepted her role as an active citizen, tried to give back and educate herself and others on issues on campus and encouraged others to be not only tolerant but also empathetic to others' struggles at Tufts. While I may not fully empathize with students of color at Tufts who "desire whiteness" as the author did, or with students who do not feel comfortable with their identity at Tufts, I attempt to understand, sympathize and educate myself. In doing so, I hope to convey an understanding of the exclusion those students feel and act as an ally to their causes.

Campus Comment: Monaco's 100 days

As University President Anthony Monaco entered his 100th day in office yesterday, he outlined for the Daily his big−picture plan to make a switch from a focus on listening to developing a cohesive plan across the university's schools. Over the past 100 days, undergraduates themselves have gone through Fall Ball, midterms and, for freshmen, adjusting to a new life on the Hill. Monaco himself has been adjusting to be a Jumbo, and here's what the Hill had to say about the first 100 days.
