Look both ways: Six pedestrian accidents in Sept. add up to 'anomaly'

Take it as a warning to look twice before crossing the street −− with October just beginning, Tufts Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) has just wrapped the busiest month in recent history for pedestrian accidents. Over the course of September, TEMS responded to six pedestrian or cyclist accidents −− five of which involved Tufts students being hit by a car.

University invests $500,000 in community bank

The Board of Trustees last semester invested $500,000 of the university's operating cash into a community bank, a decision that promotes responsible sustainable investment, according to junior Caroline Incledon, president of Students at Tufts for Investment Responsibility (STIR).

Wild Beasts rock the Paradise in concert on Tuesday

There was nothing particularly odd about Wild Beasts frontman Hayden Thorpe coming onstage wearing a tiny red beanie. It really didn't look that out of place. Nevertheless, nearly every concert has a guy in the audience who feels compelled to comment on any eccentricity present in the performance.

On the agenda this weekend | HONK!

What with all the wild and wacky characters Jumbos can find just wandering around campus, it's easy to miss the rampant quirkiness to be found in Tufts' own Somerville backyard. Need a weirdness fix this weekend? The sixth annual HONK! Festival, a so−called "festival of activist street bands" tooting their horns in the name of working against violence and oppression, will be in and around Davis Square on Saturday and in venues near Harvard Square on Sunday.

Somerville, Medford ratings rise

Standard & Poor's (S&P) downgraded the United States' long−term credit rating from AAA to AA+ last month, while Somerville and Medford experienced increases in their credit ratings earlier in the year.

Lost: Poor Little Rich Girl. FOUND: high-end fashion in Davis Square. FOUND, which opened in early September, caters to style-savvy Somerville locals with its unique collection of contemporary vintage and designer clothing and accessories. While it has taken the place of the popular store Poor Little Rich Girl — a former staple for trendy Tufts students — FOUND is hoping to fill the resale shop's shoes with even more varied, high-quality fashion than its predecessor.

Street Smarts: Tufts' Sartorial Scene

Tufts' Sartorial Scene headed off campus for Boston Fashion Week to check out which trends Bostonians are trying on for fall. First up: the Smiling Stilettos Show in Copley Plaza. We found that red is big this season, from bright to burgundy, along with animal print and leather accents. Add some plaid to your wardrobe to get that chic Brit look or mix up patterns and textures such as lady−like tweed and silky floral.
