New, modernized Green Line cars to begin service by spring 2027

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority offered a first look at the future of the Green Line during an Oct. 30 event at Boston City Hall Plaza, where MBTA leaders showcased a mockup of the new “Type 10” Green Line car. The new cars will fully hit the tracks by 2031, replacing the Type 7 and 8 cars that are currently used throughout the Green Line branch with the goal of modernizing the trains and making them more accessible.

Recipients of Anne E. Borghesani Memorial Prize reflect on final projects, lessons learned

The 2024 Anne E. Borghesani Memorial Prize was awarded to five Tufts students this year, who presented their final projects at a dinner ceremony on Nov. 7. The prize, ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, is given annually to select undergraduates who propose a project concerning an international issue. It allows recipients to pursue research projects, intern, volunteer or plan a course of study in accordance with their project.

Tufts says it will maintain relationship with Rep. Moulton following his comments on transgender athletes

Tufts recently announced that it will maintain its relationship with Rep. Seth Moulton’s office, despite reports indicating that David Art, chair of Tufts’ political science department, severed the university’s ties with the congressman following Moulton’s recent remarks about transgender athletes. Moulton has been involved in Tufts-sponsored events in the past and has worked with the Tufts political science department to provide internship opportunities for students.

First-year TCU Senators discuss new initiatives, student concerns

The TCU Senate is composed of student representatives across all years of Tufts’ student body. The most recent election introduced seven first-years to the Senate. Newly-elected senators Ashley Zhang, Logan Elie, Spencer Kluger, Gunnar Ivarsson, Jesse Kitumba, Shefali Bakre, Gracie Felsenthal, Naisha Luthra and Alexander Stone hosted a town hall on Monday, Nov. 10 as a welcoming space for students to air out their concerns and frustrations.

Science and Engineering Complex renamed the Tsungming Tu Complex after major donation from math professor

The Science and Engineering Complex has been renamed the Tsungming Tu Complex, or TTC for short. Tufts announced the change on Wednesday, following an over $10-million-dollar gift from mathematics professor Loring Tu. Tu made the donation in honor of his late grandfather, Tsungming Tu, a pioneer in modern Taiwanese medicine known for his work addressing opium addiction in Taiwan.

Tufts to launch mobile-friendly parking permit system in 2025

BREAKING: Bárbara Brizuela appointed as next dean of the School of Arts and Sciences

Tufts Federalist Society hosts debate between Tufts professor, Project 2025 contributor

The Tufts Federalist Society held a debate on Oct. 24 focusing on whether Project 2025 —the Heritage Foundation’s 900-page blueprint for the next Republican president — is a threat to democracy. Jonathan Wolfson, a contributor to Project 2025 and the Chief Legal Officer and Policy Director at the Cicero Institute, and Samuel Gebru, Tufts professor of the practice in the department of political science, argued for and against Project 2025, respectively. The conversation was moderated by senior and Federalist Society co-President Trent Bunker.
