Administration, students tackle bias on campus

For a school that prides itself on being open?minded and politically correct, name calling, graffiti and harassment based on race, gender, sexual orientation or ethnicity all occur frequently at Tufts. These acts constitute bias incidents and are dealt with through a variety of student and administrative channels.

Tufts alumna Mitra was spirited fighter and healer

Tanya Mitra (LA '10), whose joyful energy sparked team spirit at tae kwon do tournaments and whose nurturing personality bonded her to people and medicine, died suddenly at her home on Nov. 3. She was 24.

Reported Bias Incidents: Sept. 2011 through May 2012

Reported incidents are reviewed by the Administrative Contact Team to determine whether they reflect bias according to definitions of bias from Massachusetts' anti?discrimination law and, from there, an appropriate response is decided, which may include investigation, judicial action or mediation.

Alanna Tuller | Archive Addict

I hate to out myself like this, but I have a confession: I am an aviation history nerd. One of my all?time favorite books is "Skyward" (1928), Richard Byrd's memoir of his historic attempt to complete the first flight to the North Pole. And here's another confession: one of the only things getting me through these final, hellish weeks of the semester is the thought of reading Charles Lindbergh's memoir of his transatlantic flight, "We" (1927), uninterrupted over winter break.

ChildObesity180 receives grant from Harvard Pilgrim

The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy's ChildObesity180 organization recently received a $1.5 million grant from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation to support its Healthy Kids Out of School program.

While daylight saving time may be great for that extra hour of sleep on that one day we turn the clocks back, it eventually sends me into a tailspin. The darkness combined with the November cold makes for a great deal of seasonal affective disorder. Perfect for a pick?me?up, right? And my pick?me?up happens to be gnocchi.

Hollander discusses technology's role in urban planning

Justin Hollander, assistant professor in the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning, addressed a small audience yesterday about shrinking cities and using technology to engage community members in urban planning at the inaugural lecture for the new student group Urban Policy, Planning and Prosperity (UP3).
