Undergraduate applications for the Class of 2025 soared 35% since last year, with the most ethnically and racially diverse first-year applicant pool ever. More than 31,190 students applied for admission to the Class of 2025, which is the largest applicant pool in Tufts’ history, and for the first time, students of color make up a majority of U.S. applicants.
The Tufts European Center announced that of their three annual summer programs, two will be held virtually and one will be canceled entirely for summer 2021. The European Center traditionally offers three short-term summer programs abroad: Tufts in Talloires, Tufts in Annecy and Tufts Summit.
The Rev. Elyse Nelson Winger assumed her role as university chaplain on Oct. 1, 2020. She has used her position to connect with various members of the Tufts community while committing to anti-racist action and addressing issues of social justice, according to students on campus.

There was a recent upset among workers in Dewick-MacPhie Dining Center after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. The dining hall was only closed for the morning after the employee was found to be positive, but other employees thought it should be closed all day, and that protocols for COVID-19 closures should be made clearer and consistent across all dining centers on campus.
Students for a Free Tibet worked with the Tibetan Association of Boston and others to organize a weekly demonstration protesting the Confucius Institute at Tufts University (CITU). The first protest took place this past Saturday and they are expected to continue every Saturday until Tufts agrees to shut down the Confucius Institute on campus.
Tufts Medical Center received 2,925 doses of the vaccine, with 53,625 doses scheduled to arrive at 16 other Massachusetts hospitals the same day.

Tufts updated its quarantine duration protocol, announcing in a Nov. 30 email that students, faculty and staff in quarantine due to close contact with individuals with COVID-19 can be released after Day 10 of quarantine instead of Day 14, as long as they tested negative on or after Day 8 of quarantine and have no symptoms.
The event featured representatives from Tisch College, The Fletcher School, the School of Medicine and the School of Arts and Sciences.
Chayes has won awards for her reporting for the National Public Radio (NPR) in several different countries and spent nearly a decade in Afghanistan as special advisor to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She then became a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where she researched corruption in foreign countries.
The new developments included the changing of the name from "The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy" to "Fletcher, The Graduate School of Global Affairs," the creation of a Master of Global Affairs (MGA) degree and a new seal and website. Fletcher students and alumni believe that there was a lack of transparency regarding the changes of the school.
The Cummings Center is located on College Ave. near the future Medford/Tufts Green Line station. Upon completion, it will house the Mathematics, Computer Science and Economics departments, the Data Intensive Studies Center (DISC), the Tufts Gordon Institute and the Fletcher Global Master of Arts program.
The program, which over 200 people attended, consisted of presentations from multiple community members about the impact of COVID-19 on anti-Asian racism.
Paul Wagner, senior sourcing manager, said the university has enough resources to last through the spring.
The Global Research Assistant Program (GRAP) is a program that gives Tufts students the opportunity to work with professors over the summer on international research projects.
