1- Seed of the U.S. men's hockey team in the Olympic tournament after a stunning 5-3 win on Sunday over Canada. In Vancouver, the Americans rode a 45-save effort from goalie Ryan Miller and two goals out of nowhere from Brian Rafalski to stun the Canadians and advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Thanks to a 3-0 win by Sweden over Finland, the United States will next take the ice on Wednesday against the winner of Switzerland-Belarus, having upset Canada, the heavy gold-medal favorite.

Men's Ice Hockey | New heights reached in season finale

February 21

With a split in its final weekend of regular season play, the hockey team set a new mark for the Tufts program in the NESCAC era. Though the Jumbos fell 7−1 to Norwich on Saturday, their 7−2 victory over Saint Michael's on Friday night secured the Jumbos'12th victory of the season and their 27th point in the standings — the most since they joined the league in 2001.

Ice Hockey | Jumbos close out regular season at home, prepare for playoffs

Though the ice hockey team may be over the hill, having clinched the No. 7 seed in the NESCAC playoffs, the Jumbos are definitely not yet through the woods. Before it heads to the conference tournament, Tufts will have to close out its regular season with back-to-back home games this weekend, starting with Saint Michael's College tonight and followed by Norwich tomorrow afternoon.

Inside the Olympics | Chinese surge, Russians fall in pairs skating

For those unfamiliar with Olympic pairs figure skating, the Russians are like the NCAA women's basketball powerhouse Connecticut Huskies. In each of the past 12 Winter Games, beginning at Innsbruck, Austria in 1964, a duo from Russia or the Soviet Union has triumphed with the gold medal. But that remarkable streak came to a screeching halt after Monday night's free skate, as the veteran Chinese pairing of Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo usurped the top spot on the podium.

Inside NCAA Basketball | Atlantic 10 looks to be Cinderella story

The Atlantic 10 is a typical mid−major conference. While it occasionally produces a shining moment, it is annually overshadowed by the power conferences. Xavier has been the only Atlantic 10 team making headlines in recent years, and even the Musketeers have struggled to make it deep into March.

16 - Dollars, in millions, that Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski will earn over the next four years, making him the richest kicker in the history of the league. The deal, signed on Tuesday, also removed arguably the top kicker from the free-agent market. In 10 seasons with the Raiders since he was drafted in the first round out of Florida State, Janikowski has scored 1,000 points, converting 78.4 percent of his field goal attempts. He has also attempted a record-long 76-yard field goal in 2008,  which he missed.

Snowed out: Women's basketball postponed

With the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Tournament wrapped up, the women's basketball team will turn its attention to the regular season finale at home against Worcester State. Due to inclement weather, the game has been postponed and will be played tonight at 7 p.m.

Men's Squash | Bears and Big Green hand Jumbos winless weekend

The men's squash team wrapped up its regular season schedule against some of its stiffest competition of the year with bouts against Ivy−Leaguers Brown and Dartmouth. Though the Tufts squad came back to the Hill with two losses in hand, the Jumbos took away some positives from going up against higher−level competition.

Men's Basketball | Bobcats claw their way back, end Tufts' season

February 15

All good things must come to an end. And the high the men's basketball team felt last week after upsetting Amherst for the first time since 2003 was no exception. Though the Jumbos did not have a chance at the playoffs entering the game on Saturday — a Wesleyan victory on Friday over Bowdoin eliminated that possibility — the team was still looking to triumph over Bates and send its six seniors off on a high note. But the Bobcats put an end to Tufts' frustrating 6−17, 2−7 NESCAC season in an unceremonious fashion, putting down the Jumbos by a score of 64−55.

Women's Basketball | Bobcats upset No. 13 Jumbos, Tufts falls to fourth seed

February 15

With a first−round home matchup in the NESCAC Tournament already locked up for the women's basketball team, the No. 13 Jumbos were upset Saturday on the road by Bates, 71−55. After last week's loss to conference rival Amherst, Saturday's game marks the first back−to−back regular season defeats for the Jumbos since January 2007.

Spring teams begin practices over weekend

February 15

Members of the men's lacrosse team took Bello Field for the official start of spring practices over the weekend. Last year's NESCAC Tournament runner-up was just one of several Jumbo squads to commence practices. Season start dates vary from team to team, with the majority of spring sports beginning mid-March.
