Tufts women’s soccer was narrowly defeated by Hamilton 1–0 on Saturday in the NESCAC conference quarterfinal game. In a tough, evenly matched contest, the Jumbos were unable to get on the scoresheet. Tufts will end its season 8–7 overall, and 5–6 in conference play.
After claiming its first victory of the 2021–22 season on Oct. 23, Tufts football continued its hot streak on Saturday, beating Hamilton 30–24 in overtime. The Jumbos have had a difficult season with injuries to many of their key starters, but it seems as though the offense and defense finally clicked.
As a sporadic Boston Celtics fan, I don't usually get concerned over a bad stretch of basketball during the regular season. This stretch is different. As a fanbase, we knew that coming into the 2020–21 season that the Boston Celtics were not a title contender; they simply do not have enough talent nor depth on the roster to manufacture a title run. Additionally, they have a new head coach, Ime Udoka, who is working with a roster that doesn't have a true identity. The Celtics’ start to the season has been nothing short of a dumpster fire. After their heartbreaking double-overtime defeat to the New York Knicks on Opening Night, the Celtics have only played three quarters of inspiring basketball. It's a dreadful trend that has continued from last season.
The Tufts University Jumbos hosted the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a NESCAC men’s soccer quarterfinals matchup on Saturday.
After a year without sports on Tufts’ campus due to the pandemic, sports are back, and the Jumbos are joined with a new class of first-year athletes.
The men’s soccer team completed its regular season this week, losing to Connecticut College on Saturday and drawing Bowdoin on Tuesday. The loss to Conn. College was the Jumbos’ first of the season.

The team we should take more seriously
If anyone said they expected the Red Sox to perform as well as they did this season, they'd be lying through their teeth. Coming off of an abysmal 2020 season, many baseball pundits doubted this Red Sox squad — and with good reason. Their offseason acquisitions weren't raising any eyebrows and the team was still without Chris Sale and Eduardo Rodriguez in their starting rotation at the beginning of the season. Given what the cupboard looked like at the beginning of April, what this team accomplished this season was nothing short of remarkable.
Coming off a tough loss to NESCAC rival Williams, Tufts volleyball bounced back in strong fashion, winning three consecutive games over the weekend to improve its record to 13–4 overall and 4–2 in NESCAC competition. The wins included victories over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a non-conference opponent, Trinity University (Texas), the nation's No. 3-ranked team, and Trinity College (Conn.), a NESCAC rival. Head coach Cora Thompson spoke about the benefits of playing a variety of non-conference teams.

For over a decade, this fairytale matchup has gripped the sporting world with its never ending brilliance. As a fan, you either fell for the dazzling footwork and speed of Ronaldo or the elegant movement and effortless precision of Messi. Thus, it was obvious that when the Portuguese star Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid in 2009, all eyes turned to his contest with FC Barcelona and Messi. The script couldn’t be more perfect: Both clubs were renowned for their contrasting recruitment philosophy, playing style, political affiliation and, now, leading talisman. Nine seasons and over 785 goals later, this elusive chapter has come to an end.
Tufts men’s soccer remains undefeated after a 3–0 victory over Trinity on Saturday and a 0–0 double overtime draw against Middlebury on Sunday. The Jumbos moved to 9–0–2 for the season and 5–0–2 in conference play.
Spending the weekend on the road for a NESCAC doubleheader, Tufts women's soccer suffered two heartbreaking losses to Trinity and Middlebury. On Saturday, Tufts traveled to Connecticut to take on the Trinity Bantams, where a hard-fought game resulted in a 1–0 loss for the Jumbos. The next day, the team made its way up to Vermont to face the Middlebury Panthers for a back-and-forth game that was eventually sent into overtime, ultimately ending in a 2–1 loss. The Jumbos are now 5–5 overall on the season and 3–4 in conference play.
Last Thursday, the Boston Red Sox dejectedly walked off Tropicana Field after an embarrassing 5–0 loss to an energized Tampa Bay Rays squad. The Rays dominated the Red Sox in all three facets of the game and were simply more determined to win the series. As expected, the series seemed to be over after the first inning in Game 1; however, the Red Sox have now secured a spot in the American League Championship Series and are four wins away from their third World Series appearance in nine years.
This past Saturday, Tufts cross country competed at the NEICAAA championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The women finished 10th overall in the varsity 5K race and fifth in the sub-varsity 5K race, while the men, who did not have their top eight runners race at the meet, finished fourth overall in the sub-varsity 8K race.
With both Tufts tennis teams’ fall seasons winding down, these squads showed off the hard work they’ve been putting in throughout the semester this past weekend. The women’s team was up at Middlebury for a three-team draw that included the host Panthers, the Bowdoin Polar Bears and the Jumbos. The men’s team was in Lewiston, Maine, where they shared the court with five other Northeast sides: Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby, Skidmore and Trinity.
Monday marked the first nationally recognized Indigenous Peoples' Day in the United States. For millions of NFL fans like myself, the first thing we did was watch the Kansas City Chiefs lose to the Buffalo Bills just as the clock ticked past midnight on the East Coast.
Tufts field hockey played in its first away doubleheader of the season this weekend, in which the team traveled to both Trinity and Middlebury College. The No. 4 ranked Jumbos faced the No. 5 ranked Bantams on Saturday and the No. 1 ranked Panthers on Sunday. Both the Bantams and Panthers are NESCAC opponents, making these two games highly anticipated conference matchups.
