Wild Wild West
At 11:49 p.m. on Feb. 18, there was a report of a strong odor of marijuana emanating from a room in West Hall. Tufts University Police Department (TUPD) officers located the room and knocked on the door. The student who answered the door explained that he did not know where the smell was coming from, but he was sure that the smell was not coming from his room. Nevertheless, TUPD officers were able to see a large water pipe on the student’s desk. At this point officers advised the student to surrender all of his drug paraphernalia. The student then let the officers into his room. Once inside, officers discovered five bags of marijuana, two grinders, a scale and a second glass water pipe, all of which were confiscated.
Do You Want to Build a Snowman?
At 11:38 p.m. on Feb. 28, TUPD officers discovered two students lying face down in the snow on Packard Ave., across from Gifford House. The students were intoxicated and unable to answer any of the questions posed to them. They were both transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. TUPD noted that a total of six students were transported to the hospital for alcohol intoxication during the weekend of Feb. 27-March 1.
Jesus Take the Wheel
A student stopped the driver of the Tufts shuttle at 12:02 a.m. on March 3 and informed him that a snow removal machine was currently running in the rear of Eaton Hall. TUPD officers were informed and investigated the report. The machine was indeed found to be on, but no driver was discovered. Officers theorized that the operators had left the keys in the ignition, allowing someone else to start it up later.
Delta Oops-ilon
At 11:30 p.m. on March 7, TUPD received a call from the brothers of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. They reported that an intoxicated student showed up at the fraternity house and fell down, injuring himself. The brothers placed the injured student on a couch and called TUPD. The student was subsequently transported to the hospital. TUPD noted that a total of four students were transported to the hospital for alcohol intoxication during the weekend of March 6-8.
Can You Can-Can?
TUPD officers were shutting down a party at 1:00 a.m. at the International House when a female student was observed exiting the house with a can of beer. Although officers attempted to stop her, she turned away and put the beer into the side of her pants. When finally questioned by the officers, she informed them that the can in her pants was a can of soda. When asked to remove it to prove the truth of her statement, she was forced to reveal that the beverage was indeed a can of beer. The beer was confiscated by TUPD and a report was sent to the Dean of Student Affairs Office.
