Alcohol more dangerous than marijuana

Last week, Tufts was ranked as the most dangerous college campus in the United States by The Daily Beast, an opinionated news website. Although it is obvious that the Chinatown location of the Boston campus was the overwhelming reason for the high ranking, I still believe we are far from perfect here on the Hill.

Tufts students last semester successfully used crisis mapping to aid rescue and relief efforts in the wake of the Haiti earthquake in January. This semester, crisis mapping makes its return to the Hill in a bid to build on that experience.

Americans warm up to marijuana use

As many on campus have realized, marijuana use is hardly confined to a stereotypical "pothead" or stoner anymore. In the United States, at least, marijuana use is becoming more and more acceptable as larger numbers of people begin to support and argue for the legalization of the drug.

Laptop use in the classroom comes under fire from some professors

More university professors nationwide have increasingly questioned students' use of laptops in class, with some choosing to ban computers from lectures. Students returning to the Hill this semester have found that some Tufts professors have also made the decision to either discourage or prohibit the use of laptops in their classrooms.

Revamped sexual assault judicial process takes effect, garners praise

A new judicial process for sexual assault cases earlier this month went into effect after the administration, in collaboration with the Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate and the student group Students Active For Ending Rape (SAFER), crafted a special procedure for Tufts to handle such allegations.

With Boston Fashion Week getting into gear this week, it's time to preview what kinds of trends came out earlier this month at New York's Mercedes−Benz Fashion Week (NYFW). The spring/summer 2011 collections of world−famous designers like Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors shook up the fashion world by rejecting the sartorial status quo of '80s neon and spandex for a mix of '70s disco and '90s minimalism.

Football | Veteran linebackers spearhead defense

The Jumbos' defense may have lost an NFL−caliber safety in Tom Tassinari (E '10), but with three seasoned linebackers anchoring the squad, Jumbos fans can expect a season of consistently stalwart defensive play. Senior Matt Murray and junior Ferras Albitar — who both finished in the top five on the team in tackles and sacks last season — form an imposing linebacker trio with senior Brian Danshaw that should give opposing offenses fits.
