Summer Mix Tape | The Tufts Daily's essential summer soundtrack

Summer is upon us once again, meaning it's about time to sleep in, catch some rays, find a job (maybe) and catch up on the latest music. Though the Daily can't help with most of these goals, we've put together this mix tape to serve as a soundtrack for summer 2008. Check it out and you'll find that these songs are just about as bright and cheerful as a J.P. Licks ice cream cone or 60-degree-plus weather. But don't just take our word for it: Click here to hear for yourself!

From the outgoing TCU president | A united community

When I first had the opportunity to write my reflections for last year's Commencement issue of the Daily, I struggled to find a topic that would express my excitement about beginning my term as president of the Tufts Community Union (TCU), while also maintaining relevance to issues we were all facing on campus. In the end, I decided to focus my thoughts on our Tufts community and how we, as individuals, come together in a variety of ways to create that community.

Winston Berkman and Charlotte Bourdillon | Two For Tea

As Two for Tea-goers, we started out the semester with an "enlightening" visit to a Buddhist teahouse. As the year comes to its close, we decided it was "high" time for a classic British tea. Not high tea, mind you, but afternoon tea.

Unlike the movie industry, blockbuster game releases generally fall toward the end of the year, taking advantage of the season's holiday gift rush to move units. With publishers gearing up for this deluge, June through August tends to be a slower period for gaming enthusiasts. Luckily, there are still a few compelling reasons to stay in the air conditioning during the coming months.

Harmony in the age of noise

Universities are laboratories for community-building where strangers are quickly transformed into classmates and lifelong friends. No sooner have freshmen unpacked their bags and said farewell to their parents than they begin the transfer to a new alma mater or "nourishing mother." From matriculation to Commencement, the language of "family" is continuously invoked.

Sleep: the new drug

It used to be the most usual thing on Earth. Everybody did it, every night, and sometimes even during the day. Today, however, simple sleep has become a forbidden pleasure. The eight-hour daily sleeping routine has long passed. The enormous pressure on our generation to do everything and do it best keeps us all awake at night. Every day, we work as hard as we can, trying to persist, fight and not give in to our utmost desire: sleep.
