- Senior Amanda Richardson reminded senators of the Nov. 28 faculty meeting where a vote will decide whether SIS security should be enhanced to prevent former advisors from having access to students' academic records. She asked for a co-sponsor for a resolution on SIS security that will go before the body next week.

Hockey | Jumbos draw split in season-opening games vs. Williams, Middlebury

The hockey team kicked off its season this weekend with a split in a pair of games against NESCAC rivals Williams and Middlebury. The Jumbos ended the double-feature with a 5-1, somewhat expected loss to Middlebury - ranked No. 1 in the country in preseason polls - but got an early-season confidence booster with a dramatic 3-2 win over Williams on Friday.

In last Wednesday's op-ed submission, Sharon Neely wrote that she was "troubled and saddened by the assumptions made about faith and its role in people's lives" in a Nov. 8 op-ed that I authored entitled, "Not a belief system, but a reason-based alternative to religion."

Corrections

Two quotes in the Nov. 7 Features article entitled, "Reduce, reuse, e-cycle: Disposal of electronic waste gains attention as an environmental issue" were incorrectly attributed to environmental science lecturer Anne Rappaport. The comments were actually made by Tufts Recycling Coordinator Dawn Quirk in an e-mail to the Daily.

Men's cross country | Tufts is disappointing 26th at Nationals

Last week, with the pressure on to earn a national bid, the men's cross country team pulled off its best race of the season. The Jumbos finished third in a field of 47 teams at New England Regionals, good enough for an at-large bid to the NCAA Div. III Championships, held at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn on Saturday.

Jumbos will open season tonight against RIC

The women's basketball team will kick off the 2007-08 campaign this weekend, when it travels to Beverly, Mass. and plays two games in Endicott College Tip-Off Tournament. The contests will mark the first of 12 consecutive out-of-conference games the team will participate in to start the season before NESCAC competition begins Jan. 18.

For many students living off campus, fire safety falls low on the list of concerns about their apartments. But after a fire killed seven college students in North Carolina last month, fire safety has come to light as an issue on - and, perhaps more importantly, off - college campuses.
