Pete McKeown | Daily Townie

This column is about senior week. But in order for me to write about these last days without continually concussing myself with a mock diploma, we both need to agree to lie beforehand that graduation isn't a few weeks away, and that when I'm done with Tufts, I'm not going to be transported four minutes to West Medford with my parents and dogs as roommates, but rather sent on a six-month tour of the world, for free, because I'm special.

Andrew Bauld | You Can't Steal First

I guess Mother Nature must be a Red Sox fan. In the same weekend that spring finally graced New England, an even lovelier event accompanied her: a clean sweep of the New York Yankees.

Neil Padover | Man, I'm Awkward

Since this is my last official column before the Commencement Issue, and since I'm slowly running out of topics to fill an entire page, I decided I wouldn't write a column this week. Then, the Daily said they needed some filler and threatened to publish those risqu?© photographs they found of me if I didn't pull through.* So, this week, I give you: random thoughts that probably won't link together. What can I say? I'm a team player.

We need honest dialogue now more than ever

An earlier Viewpoint submission brought attention to the anti-Islam piece that appeared in the Primary Source recently. The piece, which sought to portray Islam as a monolithic worldview dominated by misogynistic and violent ideologies, was clearly intended to spark controversy rather than intelligent dialogue or debate. While the piece may have gone largely unnoticed by most students, it was a vibrant topic of discussion amongst students participating in the Pathways to Faith interfaith dialogue seminar.

Virginia Tech: The futility of anger

In his Viewpoint, "Seung-Hui is not a victim" (April 24), author Dan Patack seemed to be implying that the only possible explanation for the Virginia Tech shootings was a singular case of irremediable insanity. Although Mr. Patack has put in appreciable effort to discredit the argument set forth in "A plea in remembrance" (April 19), his writing is driven by anger and indignation rather than by a constructive desire to effect positive change.

Top 10 | Spring Fling Performers

There are very few people in the world that would complain when offered a free concert featuring the hottest selling rapper not named Jay-Z, two critically acclaimed indie acts, and Kanye West's handpicked prot?©g?©. There is a small subset of people who would whine about this free concert and who are known simply as "Tufts students."

Why do you hate America, Sheryl Crow?

On April 24, Sheryl Crow made a novel suggestion to aid in the fight against global warming: a limit on personal use of toilet paper. While Ms. Crow later said that her comments were "a joke", we at the Daily would like to make clear that this line of conversation is no laughing matter.

Silence is golden, so be quiet

This goes out to all you overachievers, internship go-getters and constantly-talking-on-the-phone-to-your-friends/family/boyfriend types who are always planning get-togethers to save the world. Not that there's anything wrong with these activities, it is just that sometimes in your quest to acknowledge the plight of the oppressed you forget the common curtsies due to those around you.

Boston's Independent Film Festival hits Somerville Theater, bringing relief from blockbuster disappointments

The post-Academy Awards season is rarely a glorious time for mainstream cinema. This year, most of the highest-grossing films have been received with scathing reviews from movie critics across America. When Hollywood blockbusters simply aren't giving audiences the proper entertainment they're paying 10 bucks for, it's time to give independent films a better look. A variety of festivals in select cities bring enlightened movie-goers an alternative to the often disappointing and formulaic wide-releases that flood the box office.

Abort the ban

Sigh. Here we are again, or maybe I should say here I (and Vox) am again, rallying for the pro-choice cause for the last time this semester. I thought that my latest article would be my last, but in light of the recent Supreme Court decision to uphold the Federal Abortion Ban, I sadly must write to defend our cause once more.
