An initial reaction to the V. Tech shooting

On Monday, 33 people were killed by firearms in a tragic day at Virginia Tech. There are no words that can describe what the family and friends of those people must be feeling at this time. To believe that their loved ones are safe at school on an isolated campus, protected from harm, and then to wake up to CNN and see the headlines. How is this possible?

By the Numbers | Violence in perspective

Monday's violent shooting on the Virginia Tech campus sent shockwaves across college campuses nationwide, as first-hand accounts and cell phone videos brought the incident to life - and close to home. Not just a black man

This afternoon I went to Eaton Hall to work on a few things. The room was crowded. I sat next to a girl who seemed to be really concentrating and working hard. Scanning through the channels hopelessly, I suddenly come to the realization that when you want to find something good on TV, little demons of irony fly up into the room and mess with the cable box so that nothing works except basic cable. Conversely, when you have absolutely zero time to watch TV, the movie you've been dying to see is on.

Adam Winograd | Eiffel Thoughts

Yesterday, I went to Kentucky Fried Chicken. It was the first time I'd seen one in Paris and I was strangely drawn to it. For anyone who knows me well, this would be a surprise, as I haven't eaten at KFC in over 12 years and profess an ardent hatred for the place.

When I first heard that Rjd2, one of the most inspired hip-hop producers of the last decade, was forsaking his turntables to form a live band, the first thing I thought of was how goofy Michael Jordan looked in his White Sox uniform.

Step it up to reduce your footprint

Tufts should be proud of the approximately 100 Jumbos who showed up on the Res Quad this weekend to rally for drastic reductions in American carbon emissions as part of the national Step It Up campaign. As global warming shapes up to be one of the biggest challenges facing our generation, developed nations across the world are coming to realize just how much human and financial capital will be required to avert ecological and social catastrophe.
