Jasinski's dominant play earns her NESCAC Player of Week honor

For the fourth time this season, a Jumbo player has been named NESCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. This time the nod went to Jumbo senior co-captain Laura Jasinski, who had a monstrous first-round of the NESCAC tournament, with a season-high 17 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in the Jumbos' 65-50 win over seventh-seeded Middlebury at Cousens on Saturday.

How to succeed in a failed state

With the United States' attention still focused on a rabid debate over how to win in Iraq, it seems far too defeatist to call Iraq a "failed state." However, the U.S.-based Fund for Peace is doing just that.

Adam Winograd | Eiffel Thoughts

If you have ever wondered what communist Russia was like, you should visit the University of Paris VII Jussieu. Imagine hulking, government-financed buildings in the architectural style of what people in the '60s thought the future would look like. Imagine a "quad" consisting of a vast plain of concrete and cigarette butts, devoid of any trees or grass. Imagine hallways that look like subway stations and smell curiously like horse stables.

'Music and Lyrics' more than the same old love song

Valentine's Day has been responsible for the purchase of movie tickets to both good and bad romantic flicks since their conception. This February, couples and friends alike were lucky that they were offered at least one cute and entertaining flick. Marc Lawrence, who directed the 2002 Hugh Grant/Sandra Bullock romantic comedy, "Two Weeks Notice," has created a new film that succeeds where his last failed - this one is actually funny. Like his last film, though, the somewhat hackneyed plotline is supported by the chemistry and charisma of its cast.

Matt Kaufman | A Happy Recap

Last week, the picture at the top of this column was not of me. As expected, I got hundreds of e-mails wondering what I really looked like. I usually answered with, "A better looking version of Rex Grossman," to which many replied, "How can two people who look so similar perform so differently?" Anyways, onto the main point of this column.

Barry Bonds Vs. Any Sense of Justice

It's now official. Barry Bonds will be back with the San Francisco Giants this season. After signing a reported $15.8 million, one-year contract, the Juice Man himself will get yet another shot at cracking 22 home runs to finally surpass Hank Aaron's career record of 755. As everyone knows, Bonds has never admitted to knowingly using steroids, but it doesn't take a grand jury (which is already investigating him) to know that it wasn't flax seed oil he was rubbing on himself.

'The Brightness' represents the hell that is modern folk music

Ana's Mitchell joins Ani DiFranco and Andrew Bird on Righteous Babe Records with her label debut. Unfortunately, she does not quite follow in her acoustic guitar-toting predecessors' footsteps. "The Brightness" is a disappointment, especially coming from a record label with such prestigious releases. It is an album littered with bad poetry, unimaginative imagery and tedious guitar.

Kerry Wood Vs. His Hot Tub

The Chicago Cubs pitchers and catchers began their workouts yesterday with Mark Prior, Carlos Zambrano, and Will Ohman among others throwing 30 pitches off the mound 100 percent healthy. The only thing missing was Kerry Wood. The Cubs right-hander started his season off in typical Kerry Wood fashion: by getting hurt. Wood fell out of his hot tub, bruising his ribs and preventing him from throwing for four to five days.
