This MLB offseason has been unpredictable, to say the least. Not only were there many big-name free agents available, but the trade market has also been surprisingly active, making for an exciting few months. These three moves have been the most surprising.
The New Balance Grand Prix came to Boston for the 20th edition of the meet. The event was sold out with fans hoping to see Olympians and other top-level professional track and field athletes. The sprints for both men and women were packed with star power. The 100m Olympic champions from Paris were both in action: Julien Alfred of St. Lucia raced in the women’s 300m, while Noah Lyles of the United States took on the men’s 60m.
The Tufts men’s basketball team faced its toughest weekend of the season, dropping two hard-fought road matchups against top-ranked Wesleyan University and No. 16 Trinity College. A heartbreaking 69–66 loss at Wesleyan on Friday was followed by an 81–45 defeat at Trinity on Saturday. The Jumbos now sit at 17–4 overall and 5–2 in NESCAC play as they look to rebound from their first back-to-back losses of the season.

Coming off of a three-game winning streak, the women’s squash team went into their away match against Middlebury onSaturday with confidence. The Jumbos, ranked No. 11 by the College Squash Association, had dominated the Panthers the previous four times they played, winning 8–1 consistently with a 9–0 sweep in 2022.
Two days of conference play for Tufts men’s ice hockey ended in triumph with a 2–0 win over No. 10 Trinity on Saturday following a frustrating loss to Wesleyan on Friday. Tufts’ defense stole the show in both contests, culminating in a first career shutout for junior goalie Gus Bylin and Trinity’s first scoreless outing of the season.
The Tufts men’s and women’s swim and dive teams won their first meets of the weekend, with the women’s meet ending 146–68 and the men’s meet ending 111–97.

After earning their first NESCACwins with last weekend’s victories against Williams College and Middlebury College, women’s basketball traveled to New London to face Connecticut College for their fifth consecutive conference game.

Livvy Dunne from Louisiana State University Gymnastics recently shared a lengthy post on X addressing what she feels is a disconnect between collegiate scoring and the crowd’s expectations. “Too many deductions taken at a judge’s discretion feels the same as watching a basketball game that’s constantly interrupted with penalties,” she wrote in her statement. She argues that when the crowd can’t follow the scoring, it reduces the overall enjoyment and excitement of the sport.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are quickly becoming the biggest bullies in professional sports. Since Guggenheim Baseball Management took control of the club in 2012, they have missed the playoffs only once, won at least 100 games five times and appeared in four World Series, winning two.
Last weekend, Tufts men’s ice hockey played two drastically different home games against Hamilton on Friday night and Amherst on Saturday. Tufts lost 6–1 against Hamilton, but returned to Malden Valley Forum on Saturday with a new energy to beat Amherst 5–2.
The biggest news of this week is certainly that 2020 Olympian Yul Moldauer has been suspended for 16 months due to three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period. As one of the top gymnasts in the United States, Moldauer is part of the USADA’s Registered Testing Pool. Athletes in this pool are required to declare their location for one hour each day between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m., ensuring they are available for random out-of-competition drug testing without prior notice. Over the course of the year, testing officers attempted to conduct a test three times at the location Moldauer had designated, but he was not there on any of those occasions and missed the tests.
