Phantom Planet busts out of its mold with 'Raise the Dead'

Five years ago, Phantom Planet was momentarily famous for two reasons. The first was a catchy pop sound so sunny that "California" became the ubiquitous theme for "The O.C." The second was the presence of actor Jason Schwartzman ("Rushmore" (1998)) behind the drum kit.

If 'Guitar Hero' became an entire orchestra...

"The first thing about the Electro New Music Ensemble," Professor Paul Lehrman said, "is that it doesn't really exist." This Friday's concert is something of an experiment. The Tufts Electronic Music Ensemble (EME), directed by Lehrman, and the Tufts New Music Ensemble (NME), directed by Professor Donald Berman, will join forces to perform a variety of new works from off and on the Hill.

Remembering 'Mr. Tufts'

The American flag sails at half-mast in honor of the recently deceased John Baronian (A '50), a beloved alumnus who generously supported Tufts' athletics and financial aid. Once a star lineman on Tufts' football team, Baronian remained an almost ubiquitous presence on campus after graduating. He founded the Jumbo Club, an organization supporting Tufts athletics by promoting awareness and fundraising, and set up the John K. and Margaret G. Baronian Memorial Scholarship Fund for financial aid.

TDC's '4.18.08' promises to be a great one-night stand

Tufts Dance Collective's (TDC) spring show will be performed this Friday in Cohen Auditorium. The concert's title is "4.18.08," probably emphasizing the one-night-only nature of one of Tufts' most popular student groups. TDC is the largest dance group on campus and the second largest student group at Tufts, after the Leonard Carmichael Society. According to senior co-directors Matt DiPierro and Adrian Anderson, the number of dancers participating in TDC has increased yet again.
